The Metropolitan Museum of Art
It was a bit of a last minute (fantastic) opportunity but I was invited to show my work and assist a small lecture and workshop at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York November 8-9th!
Old is New Again: Bobbin Lace Technique in Contemporary Art In conjunction with Gems of European Lace, ca. 1600-1920, an exhibition in the Ratti Gallery, artist and weaver Lauran Sundin will speak about the application of bobbin lace techniques to contemporary art. Modern art running the gamut from large three dimensional fiber works produced in Czechoslovakia to the site specific light sculpture of electroluminescent wire recently installed at Kensington Palace are so contrary to conventional associations with the word "lace" that most people would not realize that are made using the same techniques. Examples of historical lace will be made available for examination in the Ratti Textile Center and Sundin will explain the three simple techniques drawn from weaving and braiding that form the basis of bobbin lace and identify them in the museum pieces. Using slides, Sundin will present images of contemporary work in fiber and other filaments for comparison to the pieces from the Museum's collection.

2nd Annual SNAG Trunk Show & Sale!!
Extremely excited to have a spot in the Society of North American Goldsmiths 2nd Annual Trunk Show & Sale at the 2012 conference in Arizona May 23rd-26th. Last year (Seattle) was amazing with both emerging & professional makers selling their work in a very intimate, bare (no prop or booths) atmosphere. I certainly left the trunk sale last year with a huge desire to try & take part in the the next one ... not to mention how incredibly inspiring it was to see all the amazing work.
I am also volunteering at the conference as a "New Emerging Professional" THANK YOU Society of North American Goldsmiths & I will see you there!
